Take a look round
Every picture below is the real app. Orange marks open another screen — the running order, the library, the settings — the way clicking would in the app itself. Dashed marks just name what you are looking at. Hover any of them, or use ← and →.
The operator window
The window is in three columns, and they stay put: what you are building on the left, what it looks like in the middle, what the congregation is seeing on the right.
- Left — Service, Songs, Scripture. The three tabs a service is built from.
- Middle — the slides. Every slide of whatever is selected. Clicking one sends it live.
- Right — Live and Next. What is on the projector now, what follows, and the controls.
- Top right — Media, Albums, Themes, Settings. The library opens in the middle of the window; pictures need the room.
- Along the bottom — the music. Appears as soon as a track starts and follows you between tabs.
Running a service
Build the running order before the service; on the day, work down it.
- Make a service. + Service at the top, and give it a name — Sunday Morning.
- Add what is in it. From Songs, the + beside a title adds it. From Scripture, look up a reference and add that. + Blank gives you an empty screen for the sermon; + Media puts a picture or a clip in the order.
- Put it in order. Drag the items. The × takes one out — the song stays in the library.
- On the day, click an item. It goes live from its first slide, and its backing track starts if it has one set to.
- Move through it with Space or →. At the end of a song the next press moves into the next item, so a whole service runs on one key.
Songs
Lyrics are kept in labelled pages — Verse 1, Chorus, Bridge — and each page becomes one or more slides.
| Mark | Means |
|---|---|
| Green ♪ | A backing track that starts by itself when the song goes live |
| Orange ♪ | A track is attached, but somebody starts it by hand |
| Grey ♪ | No track — and this song silences whatever is playing |
Right-click any song — in the list or in the running order — to change that without opening the editor. It is the same song in both places, so a change in one shows in the other.
- Import from text takes pasted lyrics: blank lines separate pages, and a line like
Chorusor[Verse 2]becomes that page's label. - Title pages and lyric pages mix freely. A title page holds whatever words you type — the song's name, a dedication.
- Each page can have its own background, so a title card can sit on a photograph while the verses stay plain.
- Text sets this song apart from the rest: font, size, colour, outline, shadow. Only what you change is overridden.
PowerPoint decks
Most churches already project from PowerPoint. Those decks come in as songs.
- Songs → Import PPTX…, or drop
.pptxfiles straight onto the songs list. Several at once is fine. - Check what was found. The first slide becomes the song's title page, every slide after it one page of lyrics. A heading like Chorus in its own box labels the page instead of being sung.
- Press Import. Nothing is saved until you do, and you can rename a song or leave one out first.
Old
.ppt files cannot be read — open one in PowerPoint and Save As
a .pptx first.
Scripture
Type a reference — John 3:16-18, Ps 23,
1 Cor 13:4-7 — and press Look up. The field completes as you type, and
anything that is not a reference falls back to searching the text.
Pictures & video
Media at the top right opens the library in the middle of the window, where there is room to see what you are choosing.
- Double-click a picture or clip to look at it full size, with ← and → to move through the library. Nothing in the viewer goes near the projector.
- A video opened while music is playing comes up silent, and says so — a clip checked during the prelude must not talk over it.
- Right-click for rename, tags, add to service, and remove. Renaming changes only the name it is listed under, so a track stays attached to its song and a backdrop stays on its screen.
- Files are copied in. A picture cannot go missing later because the original was moved or the memory stick came out.
Music
A track keeps playing while you change slides, switch tabs and move through the running order. The transport sits along the bottom until you clear it.
- The shape above the slider is the whole track's loudness. Read it ahead of the playhead: you can see the chorus coming and reach for the volume before it lands, instead of after.
- Click or drag anywhere on it to jump to that point.
- Fade out rides the volume down and stops, rather than cutting the music dead.
- The volume shows as a percentage, because a track playing at 5% sounds exactly like one that is not playing.
- A song with no track of its own silences what is playing when it goes live. Scripture, pictures and blanks leave the music alone.
What the screen shows
Three controls cover almost everything that happens mid-service.
| Control | Key | What the congregation sees |
|---|---|---|
| Black | B | Nothing at all — the screen goes dark |
| Clear | C | The background stays, the words go |
| Logo | L | The church logo over everything |
| Screen capture | Part of your own screen, live — a video call, a slideshow from another app |
Esc cancels any of them and puts the slide back.
Timers & alerts
- Length is minutes, or hours:minutes —
10is ten minutes,1:30is an hour and a half. - With no picture behind it, the slide stays where it is, blurred and darkened, so the congregation can still see where they were.
- The clock turns amber in the last half-minute and red at zero, where it stays and pulses. A timer that vanishes at zero tells nobody anything.
- It opens with whatever you used last — same title, same length, same picture — because a church runs the same break most weeks.
- Send alert… puts a message on the screen without disturbing the slide: a scrolling line along the bottom, or a box in the corner. It stays visible even over a black screen, so a nursery call still gets through during prayer.
Printing the words
For the band, for the person signing at the front, for anyone who cannot read the screen.
- Press Lyrics, at the top right. Every song — in the list and in the running order — gets a tick box.
- Pick them in the order you want them printed. The badge numbers them as you go, not as they happen to be listed.
- Press the printer beside it. It wakes up as soon as something is chosen.
- Two columns of 11pt is a whole service on one sheet — what a music stand wants.
- One column of 16pt is what somebody reading from the front wants.
- The titles are bold whatever the text size is, and a title page is not printed twice under its own heading.
How it looks
Three layers, each more particular than the last.
| Layer | Where | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| The theme | Settings → Themes | How the room looks: font, size, colour, backdrop, the scripture reference |
| Songs | Settings → Songs | How songs look in it — title pages and lyrics, separately |
| One song | The song editor | The song that cannot follow the rest |
- Backdrops are chosen from the media library, not from a file dialog, so every one has a name and tags and travels with an export.
- The wash over a picture — colour and strength — is what keeps words readable over a photograph. The preview shows real words over the real picture, because a percentage tells you nothing.
- Outline and shadow are set per kind of page: a bright sky needs a heavy outline, an already-dark picture needs none.
Profiles & moving to another machine
A profile owns everything in it — its songs, services, media, albums, theme and settings. Two rooms means two profiles, not one library with two skins.
- Export carries the profile in use — songs, services, media, albums, the theme, every picture and backdrop — into a folder you can put on a memory stick.
- Import brings it in on the other machine and switches to it. Every path is rewritten to that machine's own folders.
- A name that already exists asks whether to replace it or come in beside it as “name (2)”.
Keyboard
Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a field or while a dialog is open.
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Space → PageDown | Next slide, crossing into the next item of the service by itself |
| ← PageUp | Previous slide |
| B | Black screen |
| C | Clear the words, keep the background |
| L | Show the logo |
| Ctrl+F | Search — the library while it is open, the Bible otherwise |
| Enter / double-click | Use what is selected: play a track, send a song or a verse live |
| Esc | Cancel black, clear or logo and go back to the slide |
When something is wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing on the projector | Check Show the output on in the right-hand column, and that the red dot beside Live is lit. Esc clears a black screen somebody left on. |
| The music is playing but nobody can hear it | Look at the volume percentage in the transport. A track at 5% sounds exactly like one that is not playing. |
| A song silenced the music | That is deliberate: a song with a grey ♪ stops whatever is playing when it goes live. Right-click the song to attach a track. |
| A backdrop went black | The picture was removed from the library. Settings → Backgrounds, and choose it again. |
| A PowerPoint file will not import | It is probably an old .ppt. Open it in PowerPoint and Save As a .pptx. |
| The words run off the bottom of the screen | Settings → Slides sets how many lines go on a slide. One long song can instead be given smaller type of its own in the song editor. |
